Rhythm Stick

Saturdays, 8pm with Michelle Smith

A cocktail of rhythm, from contemporary grooves to traditional beats

Rhythm Stick is your invitation to surrender old notions of standard radio programming. Here Brazilian batucada rubs shoulders with big band jungle beats. Inuit throat singing hustles in alongside smoky R&B finger snaps. Parallels are drawn between indi pop-rock and Afro-beat. It’s a world of percussive-driven rhythms that get right inside you.

For one mesmerising hour we find the links between eras, continents and artistic explorations from around the globe. It’s in the pulse of hand claps and the defiant smacks of heels on the floor. You’ll hear it in the seductive hiss of hi-hats and the rubbery sounds of udu drums. And if you listen hard enough, it’s right there in the collective rhythm of our heart beats!  Rhythm Stick is more than a music show…it’s a global tonic for the soul.
